nǐ hǎo, my name is Penny Chen. I am a certified English, Math and Chinese teacher in the state of Arkansas, currently teaching Mandarin Chinese at Conway Public Schools. In May 2011, I graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a master degree in Secondary Education. I also have a bachelor degree in English from Harding University. This is my 6th year being a Mandarin Chinese teacher.
I designed this website mainly for my students, but if you are an educator and would like to share some of your teaching tips or resources with me, please contact me at email@example.com.
"I had been trying to learn Mandarin on my own, but it seemed very difficult. There were many things that were not clear to me and my pronunciation, needless to say, was horrible. Then, a friend referred me to Penny Chen. I immediately realized how great Penny was. First of all, she assessed my skills with the language, and quickly corrected my pronunciation. She encouraged me to make progress through every lesson and every step. I felt very eager to learn. Because she is an experienced teacher, she knows how to slowly introduce you to new concepts to keep you motivated, instead of making you feel overwhelmed with a ton of new ideas. She also teaches you about the very fundamentals of the language, and shares with you many cultural facts that are very interesting. After having some classes with her, I felt more confident about using the language in a variety of situations. In fact, I even ordered Chinese food at a Chinese restaurant in Europe. I would really recommend Penny to anyone who wants to learn Mandarin, regardless of their level."

"Thanks to Penny Chen, my daughters not only are learning to speak Mandarin, but also to sing pop songs! My oldest daughter is 14 and had a vague memory of a song she had sung as a toddler before she met us. None of us could even remember the tune, but we knew it was about a sparrow. We all got chills when Penny began to sing it. Although she is a strict teacher – she insists on excellence – my girls look forward to class and think of her as a big sister. They have been learning their native language in a warm, loving environment for the past two years. Listening to them carry on conversations in Mandarin is a joy for me – I frequently joke with them that they sound Chinese. Lessons are accompanied by a lot of laughter and Penny’s stories of growing up in China. An added bonus is that she has shared recipes for simple, delicious Chinese food. I recommend her to anyone who either wants to learn Mandarin or wants their children to learn – I feel that my girls are gaining knowledge that will enhance their careers and their lives."
